At a "very large aerospace firm in the Pacific Northwest", badge operated
security checkpoints had been installed a few years ago. An employee noticed
that a particular checkpoint, a green door, had not been opened for at least
two years, and nobody in the area knew what was behind that door.
Finally, it was decided to unlock the door and find what was inside. What
they found, covered with dust, was one of the company's network servers,
running OS/2 Lan Server. It had run those years without a reboot, or anyone
even knowing where it was.
Of course, now that it has been found, it will probably be "upgraded" to
Windows NT, and nobody will ever forget about it again.
