Dec 1998 - Consulting firm Giga Information Systems reports that upgrading from NetWare 4.x to Windows NT 4.0 costs between 2 and 3 times as much as upgrading to NetWare 5.0. NT's low performance requires at least twice as many servers, and its poor reliability and lack of directory services dictates a lot more (and higher paid) administrators.

On top of this, NT's notorious inability to feed high speed networks at anything like their full potential means a more expensive and more difficult to maintain network infrastructure (more subnets, more backbones, a lot more administrators).

All this contrasts sharply to claims by Microsoft at its recent confab for Novell Platinum resellers that "A single NT Server can replace as many as 5 NetWare servers".
