Nov-1998 - NetWare 5.0 continues to get a lot of attention and excellent reviews in the computer press. While this is unlikely to win many new converts in the immediate future, it is doing a lot to stem the flow of customers from NetWare to Windows NT.

A significant contributor to Microsoft's decision to rename Windows NT 5.0 to Windows 2000 was probably the incessant comparisons between the released and successful NetWare 5.0 and the still unreleased and dysfunctional NT 5.0. Particularly hurting were the comparisons of NDS (Novell Directory Services) with MAD (Microsoft Active Directory). It now appears that even when released with W2K, MAD will not have nearly the function and usability of NDS.
